In perhaps the greatest epic of all time, Mel Gibson portrays Scottish avenger William Wallace. The battle scenes are as realistic as they can get without actually impailing someone. Although often gruesome, the shots of crushed skulls, and decapitations, are at the risk of redundancy, powerful. As soon as Wallace killed the first soldier, I was glued to the screen for the duration of this 173-minute epic. The length was hardly noticeable.
The movie did offer a few good laughs as a result of the charm and wit you've come to expect from Mel Gibson. Just because he's a savage in the movie doesn't mean that he doesn't know how to have a good time. Just don't go in with the pre-determined notion that it's all going to be serious.
The legend of William Wallace is made up of the principles of courage, honor, loyalty (except
when it comes to a certain English princess), and Scottish pride. This movie comes highly
recommended from this aspiring amateur critic.
